Neyyantinkara

Introduction

CWRDM Sub Centre, Neyyattinkara, is one of the Sub Centers of CWRDM, established in 1991. The Sub Centre is functioning in its own building situated 20 km away from Thiruvananthapuram city, in the Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil Road. Major thrust areas of the Sub Centre are, Irrigation Management, Wetland Conservation and Management, Empowerment of women in the water sector, and Action Research and Capacity Development Programmes in the water sector. The Sub Centre researches a diverse range of issues related to water – from integrated management of river basins to action research for social upliftment. The centre’s research looks at water resources management in our state with a sociological perspective. Preparation and implementation of management action plans for wetlands is accentuated in the activities of the subcentre. Participatory approach in irrigation management has long been acknowledged and well researched by our scientists. Integrated mangrove aquaculture for socio economic and environmental sustainability is also being explored. With its strategic location near to the capital city, the Sub Centre also serves as the liaison centre of CWRDM with other governmental agencies.
